Sowelu Theater is a small, 501-c3, volunteer driven, ensemble theater company located in Portland, Oregon. The artists came together out of a common belief that an ensemble approach to theater by actors, directors, writers and designers will create the most compelling experience for the audience.

Artists are a vital part of our community, providing and expanding cultural experiences, fostering a wide variety of communication and collaboration skills and educating students in the tools of the arts professional.

Sowelu Theater has a history of bringing exciting, original live performances to audiences outside our home theater. We have surprised audiences in colleges, high schools and other communities with the potential of innovative theater and the exceptional performances by our gifted actors.

Sowelu relies on the generosity and good will of our community. Your support enables us to continue to create and present affordable, viscerally engaging live performances, and bring educational theater programs to diverse parts of our region through workshops and other community outreach programs.
