Broadcast dates for The Hero
Directed by Sowelu Artistic Director Barry Hunt and choreographer Keith Goodman, this will be a special television broadcast in the style of the popular 1950's Playhouse 90 series of live theater for broadcast.
A haunting tale of a soldiers last moments on an unnamed desert battlefield, The Hero is a new work of distinction. This poetic and lyrical play is rich with language and movement reflecting the relationship between the soldier and his wife (a mermaid stranded on the shore.) As our hero delves deeper and deeper into the final memories before his ascension, we experience a rich understanding of lasting love and lingering regret.
The Oregonian says, "What matters is the elliptical dialogue, which is shot through with emotional conflict yet feels meditative and mournful, and the physically expressive performance style, which hovers between dramatic gesture and modern dance to suggest further layers of experience and meaning. But visual and sound design also added to an overall effect that was strikingly poetic, evoking an inner life at once heroic yet dashed upon the rocks." Reviews »
