A haunting tale of a soldiers last moments on an unnamed desert battlefield, The Hero is a new work of distinction. This poetic and lyrical play is rich with language and movement reflecting the relationship between the soldier and his wife (a mermaid stranded on the shore.) As our hero delves deeper and deeper into the final memories before his ascension, we experience a rich understanding of lasting love and lingering regret.
Sowelu artists have had the privilege of working with Mr. Heyerman on two previous occasions, including the award nominated production of his play, The Brightest Thing in the Dark Tonight.
The Hero will be directed by Artistic Director, Barry Hunt and choreographer Keith Goodman. Mr. Hunt and Mr. Goodman have enjoyed successful collaborations on several dance and theater works in past Sowelu seasons.
The exceptional cast features mature artists who also share past collaborations. The critically recognized and award winning performers are Associate Artistic Director Lorraine Bahr, Michael Fetters, Joe Stoddard and Grace Carter.
